Third
Reflection on ICT Integration Lesson.
The importance of
integration of ICT in teaching and learning was recommended many years ago.
Students in schools were made to learn ICT. Children took ICT as one of the
subjects. Teacher trainees were trained
in the integration of ICT in the lesson. Training was given for all the
teachers those who completed their training long time ago before integration of
ICT was taught. But the integration of ICT was not successful due to many factors.
Some of them might be due to teachers not willing to change/ teachers teaching
children in traditional way without the usage of ICT. And in most of the
schools there was the lack of resources like electricity, computers etc.
This year in 2020, due
to the pandemic all the teachers and almost all the students were forced to use
ICT, which is a good start indeed. Now all the people became aware of the
importance of ICT. Teachers started taking online classes using Wechat,
Telegram, messenger, Google classroom etc. I teach my children using Wechat and
telegram. Many of the parents are comfortable using Wechat so, I teach through
Wechat and few of them through telegram. Although telegram is much better as we
can send large files.
But the saddest thing
is 100% children are not in the Wechat group. Few of them don’t possess smart
phone and some children stay in a place where there is no network. To help
those children teachers visit children twice in a month to distribute SIM
books, readers and worksheets, to guide and assess children’s work. To those
who are in Wechat group, telling time in quarter past / quarter to, a
mathematics lesson was taught to class II children. Few examples of clock with
time written below was shared to the children. Audio message in English as well
as in Dzongkha was sent to make children understand. Video was downloaded from
YouTube and was shared to the children for better understanding of the lesson.
I am happy that the
children participated actively, they did the activities well. All the students
in the Wechat have done their work and they send in Wechat for correction. I
did the necessary correction and gave comments as well. While going for door to
door assessment, I took time worksheet and when the children were asked, “what
time is it?” They said the time correctly in quarter past and quarter to which
shows that the children understood my lesson very well. Although there was no
classroom teaching, teaching learning was possible due to the usage of ICT so I
would like to continue teaching my children with the integration of ICT.
